Abstract:

Operational Energy is crucial for warfighting. Military bases, platforms, and soldiers must be adequately powered in their operations. However, Europe is currently dependent unstable sources of fuel while reducing its refining capacity to facilitate the green transition. Sustainable Aviation Fuels and alternatives to diesel are currently inadequate in fuelling aircraft and land platforms, and heavy batteries compromise soldier performance. Other alternatives, such as microgrids and micro-modular reactors, optimal fuel blends for resilient fuelling, as well as lighter and energy dense batteries require more policy clarity and investments.
